There are 10 awe-inspiring commissions across the UK and five of these are coming to Wales. These are all co-creating opportunities across the science, technology, engineering, arts and maths sectors, involving diverse communities, that will leave a rich, cultural and educational legacy.
Creative Wales is responsible for ensuring Collective Cymru delivers the Wales commission GALWAD in September and October, and for supporting the other four commissions coming to Wales.
In March, Caernarfon hosted the spectacular launch of the UNBOXED programme in Wales with the week-long 'About Us' immersive experience at the castle and on the maes. Here's more information about all of the commissions coming to Wales this year:
GALWAD: A Story From our Future
Commissioned by Creative Wales, GALWAD is a transmedia experience that sees Wales propelled 30 years into the future. It brings together Wales’ boldest talent in film and TV, creative technology and live performance with the imagination and talents of Welsh communities, to create a new kind of multi-platform, multi-lingual story for our times.
About Us
About Us showcases all 13.8 billion years of the universe’s history. Featuring cutting-edge projection, animation, music, poetry, art and live performance from local residents and businesses. If you've ever looked up in awe at the night sky and wondered how you're linked to the stars beyond, this is the show for you.
Dreamachine
Presented in the UK’s capital cities, Dreamachine is a multi-sensory, immersive experience in Cardiff which unlocks the power of the human mind – all with your eyes closed. A ground-breaking programme by a team of leading minds in architecture, technology, music, neuroscience, and philosophy.
Green Space Dark Skies
Sign up to be one of 20,000 ‘Luminators’ creating outdoor artworks in 20 of the UK’s National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, including Gwynedd, Gower, Brecon Beacons and Anglesey, as part of Green Space Dark Skies. To protect these amazing landscapes, the exact locations will be a secret – only those who’ve signed up will be there on the day.
StoryTrails
StoryTrails uses new developments in 3D internet technology and augmented and virtual reality to reveal the hidden and forgotten histories across 15 UK towns and cities. Coming to Newport and Swansea, and supported by the BBC, BFI and national libraries, it aims to inspire, collect and curate our histories.
The UNBOXED activity is taking place across the UK until October, and all events are free! For more information visit unboxed2022.uk
